Le Moulin Rouge, world famous thanks to its French Cancan, and immortalized by the painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, has always presented sumptuous shows to its spectators. From the original stage play Woman and Chicago to the Burlesque performances and the great revues... the concept is still the same at the Moulin Rouge: feathers, rhinestones and sequins, fabulous settings, music and of course... the most beautiful girls and guys in the virtual world.

Saturday at 7pm the Moulin Rouge comes alive with a special tribute performance directed by our own Goddess of the stage, Xanthia Lisle. She has outdone herself this time with her incredible set work, costumes and designs. She has brought together for your pleasure three of the timeless acts from the Moulin Rouge Movie. The selections are Lady Marmalade, Sparkling Diamonds (Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend), El Tango de Roxanne, and Spectacular Spectacular followed by our infamous Cancan Medley.

Don't miss your chance to see the world-renown Rouge Revue dancers strut their stuff on the Moulin Rouge's well worn stage.

AUDITIONING DANCERS THIS WEEK

Auditions are being held this week for dancers/actors roles for the upcoming fall season at Moulin Rouge. We will be doing a variety of small shows and a couple of large productions, including Chicago and the Moulin Rouge Tribute show among others. If you meet the following criteria and love dance, music and roleplay, IM Xanthia Lisle or email me at xanthialisle@gmail.com today to grab an audition spot.

Criteria:

1) Avatar at least 30 days old in SL and knows the basic principles of walking, AO's, wearing items, wearing folders of clothing, using voice, enabling music.

2) Ability to emote - the Moulin Rouge is a Victorian Moulin Rouge, Paris, France roleplay sim. All dancers/actors are required to emote descriptively during shows via text. Voice is only used in the Revue group for direction.

3) Updated avatar appearance - your avatar must have an excellent skin, shape, hair and clothing that is in period. If you need assistance with this, we can help you with shopping.

4) Ability to make the scheduled practices and performances. Performances are usually Saturday Nights at 7pm SL/PST, though for our large performances we will have multiple showtimes, spread usually Friday through Sunday.

5) A love for roleplay - our jobs as dancers don't stop when the curtain closes. We often go out in the crowd after the shows and interact with the patrons. It is advisable that you hang out some at the Moulin Rouge during times when there's not a show. Get to know people. Invite your friends.

6) Renumeration (pay) is TIPS ONLY. We don't pay our dancers, we don't have the money for it... we dance for the LOVE of dancing and doing shows. The better we perform, the more patrons we have in the club, the more your compensation tips wise will be. We do not accept individual tips... All tips go into the dancer jar for split with a small percentage going to the club. The rest is split equally among the dancers after the end of the show. If you leave early, do not count on being compensated.

7) All call for dancers is on a first come, first served basis. When I call for dancers and need a particular number, and they show up to practices and are cast, they get the spots. Occasionally I may call for fill-ins. You are NOT guaranteed a spot in the show. If you fail to make practices, you can plan on being replaced with someone who can commit.

8) Computer Issues - make sure your computer is lag free, your internet connection stable, your connectivity issues worked out, etc. several hours before a show. We do not have time for you to be going nuts at the last minute trying to work out your computer malfunctions. If you crash during a show, come back in asap and /9 TEXT the revue group to be added back to the Huddles.
9) Tardiness - you are considered tardy if you are not dressed and backstage at least 15 minutes before the show for small shows or 30 minutes before the show for larger productions. Xan and her Assistant Directors will give you pertinent show information at that time. You must be on time or you may be replaced by another dancer.

I've built 4 pavilions in different tones: dark, copper (blood), cream, green, which are great for your medieval, elven or vampire sims, for weddings, special occasions or for your garden! The Moulin Rouge has a long and rich history mocking the aristocracy while entertaining them as well. Burlesque is a kind of bohemian parodist show born from Victorian England’s prude mores and later imported to the United States. Burlesque makes fun of the world, the habits and the past times of the Nuevo rich in order to entertain the less well-to-do classes. Through the performance of extravagant numbers sensuality is transformed into comedy and offers a parody of femininity. We hope you enjoy this fine performance of the Moulin Rouge Revue Dancers.

This is the first in a series of articles on the entertainment offered throughout Second Life. I should begin by introducing myself and telling you a little of my background in this area. I have been in Second Life for many years. I have always been drawn to the various theaters that offer live entertainment, but found it very difficult to be hired as a dancer or showgirl.

A few clubs offered to let me work as a stripper or on a dance pole, but I always thought that was a lazy way to dance and rather sleezy so I stayed clear of those clubs.

About a year ago I stumbled upon the Moulin Rouge quite by accident. At the street level it didn’t appear to be any different than other places I had visited, but once I stepped into the club itself, I was simply awed. The interior is a recreation of the original Moulin Rouge in Paris. The dancers were immediately kind and welcoming. There were no dance poles at all and I knew I had found a home.

I was introduced to the owner Kris Harmison and the theater director Xanthia Lisle. I was told by both that I would have to demonstrate my ability as a dancer and be able to connect with the audience. The Moulin Rouge Club kept the flavor of a 1920s burlesque theater which meant that the music was typically jazz or from an earlier era. This only added to the ambiance.

My break came when there was a show and one of the dancers who had a solo act wasn’t able to perform. I was offered the act, but had to choreograph a routine. It was horribly frightening to step onto the stage and dance that night. It didn’t matter that I had rehearsed my number countless times. It didn’t matter that my act was just one small part of a greater show. I was trembling until it was over. When it was over I wanted to do it again.

That routine led to others such as the part of Matron Mama Morton in the Moulin Rouge's production of Chicago and Christina Aguilera’s role in the tribute to the Moulin Rouge. These were all Broadway level productions with endless hours of rehearsal, elaborate stages, complicated choreography and amazing costumes. Each show averaged an hour in length and many times we presented it two or three times in a row to accommodate the many patrons who came to see us.

The money we earned in tips was usually less than what we paid to buy our costumes. That didn’t really matter. Every dancer, man or woman was there for the love of the theater. We would have done those shows for free. We loved our audience and they loved us.

Those days are gone now. Xan Lisle had to step down as theater director and choreographer. That fantasy world called real life that we all hear about took her from us. She will be missed dearly. In her wake there is a void.

I have danced at perhaps the most amazing club in Second Life, but maybe I can find another. That is my mission. I will span the vastness of this; the world we call Second Life to search for and report on clubs that offer the best live entertainment and on occasion, those that fall short.

Scarlett is as Southern as her name. She loves a good story, a good song, and a good laugh; preferably all at the same time.

Scarlett starting singing as a child and had her first solo performance at the age of 5 and hasn't stopped singing since. Scarlett sang as a Lorelei, a 13-member a cappella female singing group, traveling up and down the east coast of the US. She has a love for all kinds of music, including rock, jazz, country, R&B and gospel. Her singing style is influenced by artists and performers like Ella Fitzgerald, Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston, Skeater Stephens, and others.

Scarlett subscribes to the theory that music is language and interpreting is a gift. To Scarlett, "Singing is breathing, and breathing is living! I live to sing, and I breath to live."
